Live Betting

Live betting (aka in-game betting) represents one of the most innovative and popular betting options offered by a sportsbook. The advent of online betting gave rise to live betting, a format now available at many online sportsbooks.

In-game betting allows players to wager on a game throughout the contest. While traditional bets only allow bettors to wager up until the start of a game, live betting presents the option of wagering on a sporting event that’s already in progress.

The emergence of in-game wagering marks one of the most exciting innovations in the modern era of sports betting. Any given sports contest could yield hundreds of live betting options through the duration of the game.

Live betting odds can change every few seconds as a game unfolds. Because of the rapidly-changing lines, in-game betting works best as an online gambling format.

Virtually all of the top online sportsbook brands offer live betting. Many sportsbook platforms offer opportunities to bet at any time during play.

What Is Live Betting?

Many of the bets available as single-game bets also play as in-game sports betting options. The technology available at online betting sites allows you to bet on dynamic odds that can shift in a matter of seconds.

Some of the live wagers available at an online sportsbook include the following:

In-Game Betting Options

Point Spread

One of the most popular forms of sports betting, point spread bets are no longer limited to pregame wagers. The online sportsbooks featured here at InGame.com allow you to bet on point spreads throughout a game.

The live spread will change from the pregame spread based on what happens during play. For example, the pregame odds on an NFL game might list the Los Angeles Rams (-3) against the Cincinnati Bengals.

If the Rams jump out to a quick 14-0 lead after the first quarter, however, the live betting line could shift to Los Angeles Rams (-10).

Moneyline

Another of the most common bets at a sportsbook, the moneyline simply tasks the bettor with choosing which team will win, straight up.

Instead of taking the Bengals (+3) against the Rams, you could bet Cincinnati on the moneyline at (+140) odds. While most NFL spread bets pay around even money, a moneyline bet on the underdog can payout big if you win.

While the Bengals might start out at (+140) on the moneyline, those odds can shift drastically when looking at live betting moneyline odds. Looking at the theoretical example above, suppose the Rams go into the second quarter up two touchdowns.

Down 14-0, the in-game moneyline on Cincinnati could shift to (+600) as the second quarter begins.

Totals (Over/Under)

Much like spreads and moneyline bets, an online sportsbook can also feature totals (aka over/under) wagers as a live bet market.

A totals bet requires the bettor to choose whether the total combined score of a game will go over or under a given number. For example, a pregame totals bet in an NBA Finals game between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors could see the line at (211.5).

If the Celtics and Warriors post a high-scoring first quarter, however, the live betting totals line will go up significantly.
